71. Finish to Start

February 7th, 2010

Ladies, I present Alex Watson, Emma Watson’s younger brother.

As if she wasn’t bloody gorgeous enough for their family…

The Simpsons marathon all night! I’m doing this in reverse chronological order.

I was going to start watching Doctor Who, but then I found out that there are 750+ episodes to date.

Speaking of reverse, am I the only person who likes doing lots of things backwards? I know Pet also does mazes from finish line to start, but he doesn’t go through the bottom of lists upwards, or read short stories from the end to the opening paragraph.

For some reason, I find that doing certain things in reverse gets the job done faster. There are so many trivial stuff at the beginning. Sometimes, I want to skip all that and go right to the end, then work my way backwards.

Just another “thing” I have.

70. The One

February 6th, 2010

It’s bad enough that I don’t exactly know street names to guide someone to my house, but for the guy to get lost and drive around in circles because I attempted to give him directions is embarrassing. I’m so glad his phone didn’t die on him, because I resolved the dilemma by telling him to drive back to school so I can drive down there and he can follow me home.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. As soon as we arrived home, I realized that I had no clue how to entertain him. We didn’t have gaming platforms (which is fine, because I soon learned that he’s more of an old school Nintendo 64 guy). We didn’t have movies, and the ones on TV were crap. He’s not Filipino, so I didn’t want to thrust the Magic Sing mic at him.

Just as I was about to commit suicide in front of him, Momc arrived and fed us grapes while she prepared Filipino food. Nice. I barely knew the guy–we’ve had three five-hour classes and a few short phone conversations, not to mention two of those involving me making him drive in circles around town. And there we were, making him eat stuff from the Filipino store as Momc launched into Boy Abunda mode.

Not surprisingly, he seemed to be comfortable with the situation. He was a talker, which Mom said was good because I don’t need another shy person. Too bad he had to take off early. I hope the impromptu Meet-the-Parent didn’t scare him off. It’s not like we’re dating, anyway. We were just hanging out since he was in the area.

I feel giddy. More so upon seeing that this is the 70th post. My favorite number happens to be 7.

I also found this lovely quote on Tumblr:

“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”

Nora Roberts

I watched The One earlier today. One of my favorites. Coincidentally, last night, I was reading up on multiverse–the reason why I like the movie so much. Imagine multiple you’s in different worlds. :D

The movie’s title is also appropriate for this day. I pray it’ll last.

Today’s song is “When Love And Hate Collide” by Jimmy Marquez. Trumps all other covers–even the Taylor Swift w/ Def Leppard one.

69. Flash Forward

February 5th, 2010

Three hours spent scribbling glyphs in Typography class. Five sheets of vellum and numerous ink stains later, I am pretty sure I got a mini-headache that lasted until the critique. Still, it was a fun session. There’s something about a five-hour class on a Friday night that brings everyone together. People are friendlier, I get the courage to talk with my seatmates while we scribbled, we’re allowed to bring food and drinks, and we pretty much have the entire campus to ourselves.

Unfortunately, a holiday falls on Friday next week, and I will not get to hang out with the cool Type people for another two weeks. :(

I wish I could skip that boring week and just fast forward to when we have Type again.

Another reason why I love The Big Bang Theory:

(all four guys are wearing the same Flash costume)
Sheldon: This is why I wanted to have a costume meeting!
Leonard: We all have other costumes. We can change.
Raj: Or we can walk behind each other all night; it’ll look like one person going really fast!

EDIT: I found the video!

Today’s song is “So Contagious” by Acceptance. I don’t usually like emo songs, but its melody sounded nice. The lyrics are quite good, too.

68. It all started with the BIG BANG!

February 4th, 2010

I found this video while searching for the backing track of The Big Bang Theory song by Barenaked Ladies.

Awesome, yes? Makes me want to start drawing again.

My first quiz in almost two years happened this morning! Midterm exam #1 for History of Asian-Pacific Americans. Everything was supposed to come from three chapters of Strangers from a Different Shore, the only textbook that I have not received yet. Partly my fault, because I failed to check if I ordered it along with the other books before classes started. I bought it online last night, and should be here by Saturday…two days after my exam.

Fortunately, I took extensive notes and listened to the lectures, so I breezed through it wonderfully. I hope. I have not studied for anything in years. The past year, school work consisted of Photoshopping stuff, painting, and other art-related activities. It was very hands-on. Now that I’m taking general education classes, I have to relearn how it is to be a Filipino high school student faced with quizzes every other day.

I’m using mnemonics again. And taking notes using Morse Code! I’ll scan one of the pages some time. :D

66.Priorities

February 2nd, 2010

Finally upgraded Wordpress to version 2.9.fucking-1. Override the wp-admin and wp-includes folder, and that’s it. Sounds easy, but not when the FTP program keeps crashing.

Skipped Psychology class tonight in favor of going to dinner with the family and Uncle William and his kids. They’re flying off to North Carolina early morning, and we’re not sure when we’ll see each other again.

We went to Crepeville, and once again, I ordered an eccentric dish that I couldn’t finish. Smoked Tofu Scramble–with super salty tofu, too much scrambled eggs, bell peppers, and plump mushrooms.

Ain’t that cute?

65. Trajan

February 1st, 2010

After a few, very informative History of Graphic Design and Typography classes, I’ve come to realize that I am liking the typeface Trajan more and more.

The letterfaces are based on the capitalis monumentalis (Roman square capitals) used for the inscriptions at the base of Trajan’s Column. You have seen this typeface everywhere–movie posters, book covers, etc. The film Titanic uses Trajan in its posters.

And if you look at the fourth line of the image above, you will notice that a part of it is similar to this:
